What is a School Counselor?
School counselors work with all students, school staff, families and members of the community as a fundamental part of the education program in maximizing student success. Through advocacy, collaboration, and consultation, School Counselors promote school success through a focus on academic achievement, prevention and intervention activities, social/emotional and career development

Academic Achievement
- Provide academic support including organizational, study and test-taking skills
- Goal setting and decision making
- Transition plans
- Collaboration and consultation with parents, teachers and staff to identify and remove barriers to learning
Personal/Social Development
- Individual counseling (Short term)
- Peer relationships, coping strategies and effective social skills
- Communication, problem-solving and conflict resolution
